Standing with Our Neighbors After the Camden Westwood Fire
Last night, our District 17 community experienced a devastating fire at the Camden Westwood Apartments in Morrisville.
According to press reports, around 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 23, a three-alarm fire broke out in a 30-unit building at 2100 Summit Ridge Loop. When firefighters arrived, the entire third floor was in flames. The fire was largely contained shortly before 8 p.m.
Approximately 70 residents, our neighbors, lived in the affected building, and all have been displaced.
For many families, everything was lost, with one resident sharing that they escaped with only “the clothes on our backs.” Others described smoke filling hallways and flames moving quickly across the roof as neighbors ran to help one another.
This is a painful moment for our district. But it is also a reminder of who we are.
When crisis hits, we show up.
Thank You to Our First Responders & Community Partners
We are deeply grateful to the Morrisville Fire Department, and the fire crews from Apex and Cary, who responded quickly to contain the blaze.
We are also thankful for the American Red Cross and Neighbor Up, who were immediately on site assisting displaced residents.
The Red Cross is currently assessing the needs of more than 70 residents and helping families secure temporary support and resources.
Residents who need assistance can call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
